Downing and Downing's NYC Dinner 2013
The D&D & Sponsors NYC Dinner Party Honoring Joe LaRocca
On Jan 14th in NYC over 100 Loss Prevention leaders gathered to honor Joe LaRocca for his tremendous achievements while he was the Vice President of Loss Prevention for the National Retail Federation. As the first true retail Loss Prevention executive ever to occupy that position, he pioneered game changing initiatives that helped evolve the industry on a national level. His subject matter expertise and true desire to make a difference played an instrumental role in creating and developing the numerous and successful Organized Retail Crime initiatives throughout the entire United States. Without his efforts much of what we see today might not exist because every effort starts with a champion and Joe championed the ORC effort unlike anyone else had ever before. Along with his other accomplishments and leadership Joe was extremely successful at unifying the industry and ensuring that we had a strong voice at the table with the senior leadership of the retail industry and with our elected officials in Congress. On behalf of all his fellow colleagues and attendees at the event, we at the Daily are honored to thank him for his efforts and for his leadership.

Thanks Joe and Good Luck with your new venture - RetaiLPartners.
Honoring Joe LaRocca

Shot right before the evenings event and airing this spring on LPNN's season 2, this session reviews and looks at Harvard Business School Professor, Tatiana Sandino's study "Can Wages Buy Honesty? The Relationship Between Relative Wages and Employee Theft". In this session we explored how her formula can be applied in any retail model and used to determine how wage increases can indeed impact theft activity in a store. And while it isn't the absolute answer to theft, it is in fact a variable that also impacts turnover, store moral, productivity, and the overall social norms in any given store.

With Jim O'Connor, the Vice President of Loss Prevention for Bed Bath & Beyond conducting the interview, and over 45 fellow retail Loss Prevention executives in the audience, Jim got right into details on the subject and added a level subject matter expertise to the review. His focus and objective was to break down the study and make it useable for the industry's benefit and clearly he was very successful at that.

Make sure you catch this episode as we will be announcing the full line up for LPNN's Season 2 shortly. Also in Season 2, look forward to a Spotlight on Leadership episode with Keith White, the Senior Vice President of Loss Prevention for The Gap stores kicking off the season, and an ORC episode with Albuquerque's Police Chief Ray Schultz on how his department pioneered and led the private law enforcements efforts nationwide with today's ORC models.

Stay Tuned as LPNN brings you the LP industry leaders recorded live and delivered to you.
