eBay Sponsors the "Say No To Shoplifting Campaign"

eBay Inc. partnered with the National Association for Shoplifting Prevention (NASP) in a campaign and response to a new trend in juvenile shoplifting. The campaign will engage the retail community to prevent recidivism by replacing the practice of "warn and release" for juvenile offenders with more substantive action that supports the criminal and juvenile justice community's ongoing efforts. eBay's support will provide funding for 1 million Say No To Shoplifting information pamphlets to be distributed by retailers to the parents of juvenile offenders upon apprehension. According to Paul Jones, eBay's Senior Director, Global Asset Protection, "Our partnership is rooted not only in the need to address changing trends in shoplifting, but to address the continued growth and evolution of shoplifting into full-scale organized retail crime, an ever-present challenge for the retail, online, and law enforcement communities." Read eBay's official announcement about the partnership by visiting www.ebaymainstreet.com and also the National Association for Shoplifting Prevention's Info-Gram on the partnership.

A new study shows that it's "increasingly difficult for even the best retailers to accurately forecast demand."  With promotions, fragmented demand, the lingering effect of the economy, retailers are "struggling" with forecasting demand.  "In addition, retailers find it increasingly difficult to understand cross-channel events that affect customer behavior and channel demand -- challenges that are amplified by retailers' inability to reconcile differing forecasts and to easily update forecasts in-season."  (Source supermarketnews.com)

Tip of the Day
Sponsored by Vector Security

No matter how good you are or how great you've done, you're going to have defeats.  The real issue is how you deal with them and how you respond.  It's impossible to bat 1,000, but it is possible to be a professional and to be honest and up front about the defeat and what role you played in it realistically.  And while the smoke from the battle may be hard to see thru, it shouldn't affect how you walk thru it albeit shaky or not.  The point is we all have defeats and, in actuality, oftentimes it's the only time we grow.

From a person who's had his share,
Gus Downing
