Smash and Grab Documentary: The Story of the Pink Panthers- 500 Robberies and more than $300M in diamonds - Coming July 31 - with real footage  Smash and Grab: The Story
of the Pink Panthers
is a thrilling heist documentary about the audacious escapades and astonishing success of a notorious gang of diamond thieves who've stolen more than $300-million in diamonds from top jewel purveyors from Paris to Dubai, with robberies in just about every major city in between. More than 500 robberies, in fact, and they're still on the loose. (Source about.com)

Big Data ROI Will Take Time, Clear Goals and Talent  The big data market is expected, by one estimate, to grow more than 30 percent annually until the end of the decade. But more than half of big data projects fail--and even those that do succeed can fall apart if the findings aren't applied to operational efficiencies. Ron Bodkin, CEO of Think Big Analytics, offers advice to help you prevent your business from becoming just another statistic. (Source cio.com)

Best Buy bets big with strategy of offering stores within store
In reality, the concept is untested. Does ceding space to Samsung and Microsoft drive additional traffic and sales throughout the entire store? Will a Samsung employee really give up a potential sale if a shopper visiting the Samsung Experience shop can’t decide between a Galaxy smartphone
or an iPhone 5? Microsoft and Samsung are essentially leasing their spaces from Best Buy, and each manufacturer controls its own pricing and merchandise decisions. "These efforts to partner with vendors should improve service levels, secure access to the latest and
greatest products, and keep more customers purchasing at Best Buy,” Gary Balter, a retail analyst with Credit Suisse, wrote in a research report. (Source omaha.com)

Another suitor for Saks Inc.
Saks, which is based in New York, has hired Goldman Sachs Group Inc. for advice on its options. Starwood Capital Group LLC, the investment firm led by Barry Sternlicht, has joined the bidding for the Saks Inc. (SKS) luxury department-store chain. (Source bloomberg.com)

Spartan Stores buying Nash Finch supermarkets
Together, Spartan Stores and Minneapolis-based Nash Finch will have 22 distribution centers serving 37 states, will operate 177 retail stores and will be the leading distributor to military commissaries and exchanges in the United States. They will have combined pro forma annual sales of about $7.5 billion. Interesting note is that Nash Finch had hired a new Senior Manager Corporate Loss Prevention a short time ago and really didn't have a formal LP program as such. However this will probably help their LP program due to Spartan's having a formal one. (Source startribune.com)

Hawaii Supreme Court rules Mall had
obligation to care for trespasser but can't be held liable for failing to anticipate a woman sneaking onto their roof - getting stuck in exhaust vent and dying later  Fry was six-to eight-weeks pregnant when she somehow accessed the roof, squeezed into the duct above the food court, and got trapped in a stove hood while suffering a psychotic episode. No one from Ala Moana Mall called emergency services until about 20 minutes later, according to the ruling. The first call was to police to say a woman broke into the duct and was crawling through without authorization. Later, another call asked for help getting her out of the duct. Frye was transported in critical condition to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead. General Growth Properties
Inc., which owns and manages Ala Moana Center, declined to comment on the ruling. (Source Associated Press)

How a Bad Night's Sleep Can Screw You Up  If you're not getting the amount of sleep you need, it can affect how you do your work. What Lion Tamers Know About Focus
Running a business or even a team can feel like you're part of a circus: juggling tasks while trying to stay balanced. A lion tamer's most important tool is his stool. The four-legged object causes the snarling beast to lose focus, and thus become frozen. Use these tricks to keep your focus too and allow you to take the action needed to get your work done. The Loss Prevention Community

As we all race through our careers with little time for anything other then our day-to-day responsibilities and our families, we often times neglect to realize that we, in fact, are one piece of a larger effort, a larger circle. One member of a community dedicated to doing the best we can for the companies we work for. As time passes we find a small group of others on the same path that become our life long friends. Strapped for time and saddled by daily events, our immediate circle becomes those trusted colleagues that help us grow and provide us with healthy debate. Finding solace, the circle strengthens and true bonds emerge that at times go beyond even that of family. Focused on the same mission the circle engraves itself and long term becomes our definition. Enriched by their caring we almost become one. Years pass and as human nature takes hold, the circle tightens and in some regards limits our need to grow and share on a broader scale and as a community. The cherished bonds developed over years of hard work and dedication play an invaluable role but also possess the challenge to go beyond our immediate circle of friends and realize we are in fact a community; a larger group of individuals and executives all traveling the same path and all needing the same things. When was the last time we just picked up the phone and called someone in our community outside of our group just to share and offer a few minutes of our time? This industry, this community has been through a lot the last few years and there's quite a few that would appreciate feeling that sense of community.
