RESTAURANT LOSS PREVENTION & SECURITY ASSOCIATION WRAPS UP ANNUAL MEETING

Group Also Names 2014 Board of Directors

Olney, MD - The Restaurant Loss Prevention & Security Association (formerly NFSSC), recently completed its 34th Annual Conference, at the M Resort, August 4-7, in Las Vegas. The RLPSA annual meeting is the nation’s largest gathering of security, safety and loss prevention professionals in the casual dining and quick service restaurant chain industry.

Each year loss prevention professionals from around the country meet at the Conference to discuss issues facing security practitioners and develop strategies designed to protect company assets. More than 300 LP professionals participated in the meeting - a nearly 30% increase from the year prior. Additionally, more than 70 vendor companies presented products, services and technologies aimed at keeping restaurant workplaces and their employees and customers, more safe, secure and efficient.

The event was highlighted by a Keynote from Don Fox, CEO, Firehouse Subs of America. Mr. Fox spoke to the power of branding and creating a work culture of positive change, optimism and commitment throughout the store and its franchises. “The ability to stay customer focused and set high standards is what has helped Firehouse achieve its rapid growth,” said Mr. Fox. The RLPSA event also had a positive impact on Mr. Fox who, after meeting such impressive individuals at the Conference quipped, he may have to look into creating his own LP and Safety department.

Registrants were also treated to a rare look at the inside of security and loss prevention from one of the gaming industry’s largest players. Chuck Barry, SVP Security, Tropicana Entertainment Worldwide, shared insights on how gaming houses utilize CCTV cameras and setup their security operations. While the goals of both the restaurant and gaming industries are very similar, the methods of operation can be different. Mr. Barry challenged attendees to look at their own security challenges through the eyes of other industries to find unique solutions.

Other sessions included industry leaders presenting a number of key topics including planning and preparing for depositions, important changes in safety laws, phishing and fraud scams, smart safes, controlling food costs loss, emerging technologies and their effect on LP, mock disaster preparation, analytics, and lively roundtable debates on numerous industry topics including exception based reporting and training and awareness programs.

“We’re extremely excited about the continued growth of RLPSA and the annual meeting,” said Jim Forlenza, Executive Director. “This is the fifth consecutive year of double-digit growth for our meeting and it really underlies the quality education being presented through a number of exciting speakers – as well as the unique nature of our networking opportunities. Education is the key to our organization and our community.”

“The meeting is the apex of our industry functions, but our goal is to now take that success and build even richer resources for our membership and community so all our members become better practitioners,” added Joe Verber, Taco Bell, and newly installed President of RLPSA.

“The RLPSA Annual Meeting provides education and networking in a truly unique atmosphere. We have strived to create an environment where both members and vendors can engage, exchange and learn from each other – and I believe that is what makes the meeting successful,” added Verber.

RLPSA Announces 2014 Board of Directors: The RLPSA also announced its 2014 Board of Directors – Joe Verber, Taco Bell, will serve as President. Other Board members include James Brussow, Dave and Busters, Rob Holm, McDonald’s Corporation, Chris Manning, The Wendy’s Company, Vince Vittatoe, Bob Evans Farms, Inc., and Anne Sullivan, CKE Restaurants.

NFSSC Donates more than $3,000 to Three Square Food Bank: Through the efforts of the RLPSA member and vendor participants during the Annual meeting, a check for more than $3,000 will be donated to the Three Square Food Bank. Three Square is a member of the Feeding America program and serves the Southern Nevada region.
