This year will be the 4th Annual Axis Retail Leadership Forum; an intimate forum designed exclusively for retailers to meet with Axis' subject matter experts and analysts about IP technologies, trends in security and where retail surveillance is headed. It's all about learning and letting your voice be heard about the challenges facing the retail industry and developing the right solutions to address these needs.

Take a look below at a few of the questions and challenges that can be shared from last year's forum. As you can see, this feedback has influenced many new solutions for the retail industry.

Axis invites all retailers for this opportunity to network, share and learn! Visit to learn more and register.

Challenges retailers asked about:

Retailer:   Axis:
A big concern of ours is failover solutions for edge storage. What do you recommend?   An issue like this can be addressed with trickle cloud solutions or NAS (Network-Attached Storage) as a backup.
Is there a way to remove spinning disks out of stores completely?   You could invest in solid state drive technology. This is an expensive alternative as spinning disks are cheaper and an always advancing technology. The cost of solid state technology is dropping as well.
What is ONVIF and does it allow for Axis cameras to connect to any VMS?   ONVIF is an open industry forum for the development of a global standard for the interface of IP-based security products. We recommend joining the "Beyond the datasheet" session coming at the 2015 forum designed to clarify the myths vs. realities of what these types of industry standards and qualifications mean.
Is there a possibility for industry standard when it comes to video analytics?   This is certainly possible, however the wide variety of circumstances for analytics create challenges for the industry to move forward on this.
Can we add storage to the base of the camera?   We recommend you use NAS or cloud. You could also look into SD card solutions such as the AXIS Surveillance microSDXC Card 64GB announced at ISC West.
Do you have any plans to improve your video compression?   Zipstream! We also recently announced our radically more efficient H.264 implementation in Axis' Zipstream technology. This technology lowers bandwidth and storage requirements by an average 50% or more. Learn more during the "What's new in surveillance" session.

Is a multi-senor, multi-megapixel, multi-lens camera a possibility in the future?   We have one now! We have released the AXIS Q6000-E PTZ Dome Network Camera. This camera includes four 2-megapixel sensors, providing a complete 360° field of view over large areas. At ISC West, we also announced the AXIS Q3709-PVE Network Camera. We will discuss all these new products in the "What's new in surveillance?" session at the 2015 forum.
Will we ever be able to configure a camera from a mobile device?   Yes! The AXIS T8415 Wireless Installation Tool announced at ISC West uses a mobile app to wirelessly connect to the camera and manage key functions such as angle and focus.
