Oaks Mall security, Gainesville Police apprehend a theft
ring
One of the suspects, Rico Deandre
Frazier, was arrested. The Gainesville Police Department
could not positively identify a second suspect, and a
third person was detained but not arrested. Loss
prevention officers at the J.C. Penney store saw
Frazier, 22, and the unidentified suspect taking watches
and bracelets and putting them into a purse before
walking out of the store. The security officers followed
the pair into the Dillard's store, where the suspects
began handling expensive purses. The officials
confronted the suspects, who ran off. Frazier was
captured and handcuffed, but while he was being taken to
the security office, he broke away after wrestling with
a security officer. He ran off, but the security officer
tackled him and, with the help of a bystander, detained
him. Frazier told police he and the other two suspects
had driven to Gainesville from Orlando to steal
merchandise to sell. Police searched the suspects' car
and found thousands of dollars worth of stolen
merchandise, some of it with the anti-shoplifting
devices still attached. The items included Michael Kors
and Ralph Lauren purses, Polo clothes and TrukFit
clothing. (Source
