Phone ruse nets over $1400 in South Daytona Dollar General theft
In a novel twist to grand theft, South Daytona police say a man and woman got away with more than $1,400 from a Dollar General store after the man called the business and told an employee he was the district manager. Dollar General cashier Bria Wright received a telephone call just before 7 p.m. Tuesday from a man who identified himself as “Henry,” the district manager of Dollar General. The man asked to speak to store manager Chris Hanley. Wright said Hanley was not in the store at that moment and the man told her he would call Hanley from another phone while he still had Wright on the line. The suspect then told the 20-year-old Wright that he was sending over a woman whom he identified as “David’s daughter.” The man said the woman would be dropping off a small key at the business and in exchange Wright was to give the woman all the cash from the store’s bank bag, cashier drops and cash registers.
