Conference to Feature Mock
Active Shooter Disaster
April 4, 2013 - The National Food Service
Security Council (NFSSC), the leading trade association for
loss prevention and security professionals in the QSR and
casual dining restaurant industry, will feature a mock
active shooter incident course at its 34th Annual
Conference, August 4-7, in Las Vegas.
The session, titled “The Active Shooter Risk – Are You
Prepared?” will be presented by Dean Correia, of the
Security Executive Council. “Dean is a long time industry
veteran including senior roles with GAP, WalMart and
Starbucks,” said Jim Forlenza, Executive Director, NFSSC.
“He is renowned for his customized security training
workshops and services and his hands-on approach will help
LP professionals be better prepared in the event of
disaster. Dean will take attendees through a simulated
active shooter event in order to test current preparation,
response, and recovery plans as well as share best practices
from other companies in order to improve existing company
plans. He will challenge our restaurant leaders to help keep
their employees and customers safe and prepared.”
In addition to his Faculty Emeritus role at the SEC, Dean
Correia is also founder of Correia Security Resources. His
successful work in the field of security and preparedness
includes leading security event planning for private
companies at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics and at the G8/G20
Summits.
“Dean has a unique ability to take his experience in the
field and deliver that into the classroom in a way that is
effective and successful,” said James Brussow, CPP, Dave &
Buster’s Inc., and 2013 NFSSC President. “He will challenge
our members and attendees to create a more prepared and
interactive business continuity plan that will re-think the
way we protect our customers and employees and ultimately
help to save lives.”
NFSSC will host its 34th Annual Conference, August 4-7,
2013, at the M Resort Spa and Casino, in Las Vegas. The
event features executive keynotes, educational sessions and
workshops, roundtables, exhibits, scheduled
practitioner/vendor meetings, and a host of entertaining
networking functions. The education program will highlight
speakers from the restaurant and loss prevention industry,
presenting real-world topics and best practices, offering a
host of solutions and insights for everyday situations.
